Interaction with guests

I give my guests space but am available when needed

Generally, I’m home, which is also on the same 2.5-acre lot as the Airstream, but when I do have to be gone I have a maintenance person on standby for guests should any issues arise.

Directions

Most will take Hwy 62 into Joshua Tree from the west (LA, Orange County, San Diego and the Palm Springs area. When you get to Park Blvd. in downtown Joshua Tree, make a right (south) and go uphill. Drive about a mile. You’ll make another right (west) onto Alta Loma Dr. (If you continue up Park until it starts to wind and turn, you’re on Quail Springs now heading to the park entrance. You’ve gone too far). On Alta Loma go until the first stop sign. This is Sunny Vista. There is a grade school on the northwest corner. Make a left (south), you’ll be going uphill. Go almost to top and look for Sandalwood Trail. Make a left (east) on Sandalwood Trl. Drive 1/4 mile to end of pavement at corner of Outpost Rd and Sandalwood Trl. Desert Bohemia Airstream Glamp ground is behind the 2 story, modern rectangular, grey house on the left (southeast) corner. The entrance in about 100 ft beyond Outpost. If you’re coming in from the east on Hwy 62 (like in from Las Vegas), you’ll get to Park Blvd, make a left (south) and follow the directions above.

House manual

As you pull into the property you’ll see the main house driveway on your left. Pull into and park on the right side of it like you were going into the right side of the garage. Walk down to the Airstream, being very careful–to the right of the driveway there’s some construction happening. Currently there’s a very deep hole.

There is a light post with a black lock box on it just to the left of the Airstream door. Use the code and get the trailer key from here. This is also where you will return the key upon departure.

Some additional helpful info we’ve realized should be included after our first year of operation…

  1. There is a lone white switch on a wall in the trailer. Please resist the urge to change it from its current position. It’s function will not be evident to you, but it indeed changes something that we do not want changed. (If there is a loud unexplainable sound when you turn on any water source, this button has been put in the wrong position).
  2. The thermostat (right above the aforementioned white button). For heat, depress the power button a few times until the words “heat pump” (not “heat furnace”) are visible at the bottom, then choose desired temperature with the up/down arrow buttons. Please turn all the way off upon departure and when leaving for extended periods.
  3. Using an RV toilet. It’s similar to the typical US residential toilet, but for the flush handle being right foot operated. PRIOR to doing one’s business on the toilet, one should ever so lightly press the foot handle, just slightly, until the bowl fills about halfway with water. THEN do your business. Once your business is complete, gently pressing the same foot handle all the way flushes everything down. You’ll see. It’s easy. Not following this particular instruction will increase the chances of having to smell your own business for the duration of your stay. Without the extra water things collect in the plumbing. We don’t want that.
  4. None of the windows open. Cranking the levers will only strip the levers’ gears. Please don’t attempt to open them. The two skylights and the door itself opens for fresh air if you like.
  5. SB County’s “burn ban” has now officially been lifted and we are once again allowing fires, but only in our fire pit, and only when there is no wind, and only when you will be present. Upon the first signs of wind or once you decide to go inside or leave for any reason the fire must be fully extinguished.
  6. The stock tank pool has a lot of mechanical parts around it including the filter, pump and as of recently our new water heater. Guests are not to touch any of these under any circumstance. They are all smart devices and run by owner.
